Cape Coral is a beautiful city in Lee County, Florida, USA, on the Gulf of Mexico. It was founded in 1957 as a planned community, and its population has grown significantly. The city's history began in 1957 when two real estate developers, Leonard, and Jack Rosen, flew over the area and purchased a 103-square-mile tract for $678,000. The Gulf American Land Corporation (GALC) was formed to develop the land with a different marketing approach. Instead of listing lots with real estate agents, GALC used a dinner-party model, operating from banquet rooms in local hotels. Buyers were invited to attend by offering a complimentary dinner for two, and the well-trained sales team closed deals in 90 minutes, a method known as team selling. The development was so successful that GALC opened offices in 24 states and chartered flights to fly buyers to the property. Instead of borrowing from banks and lenders, the developers factored the sales contracts to pay for building the infrastructure. The first building in Cape Coral was the Rosens' sales office, and Cape Coral's first permanent resident was Kenny Schwartz, the Rosens' general manager. The first four homes in Cape Coral were completed in May 1958, and development continued through the early 1960s, mainly on Redfish Point, south of Cape Coral Parkway.
