About Brownsville

Brownsville, TX Brownsville, Texas, is a city in Cameron County with a population of 186,738. The city is renowned for its subtropical climate, Hispanic culture, and deep-water seaport. After the war, President Grant sent Union General Frederick Steele to Brownsville to patrol the United States-Mexico border and aid the Juaristas with military supplies. Jim Crow legal guidelines in the South and US annexation silenced African Americans and Hispanic residents. In 1906, Brownsville confronted a racially charged incident acknowledged as the Brownsville Affair.
